Shawn McLain focuses his practice entirely on the professional representation of school districts and business entities in labor and employment law, education law, insurance defense, civil litigation, and appellate practice. He regularly counsels school districts on matters involving employee and union grievances, school board policies and procedures, construction and bidding matters, regulatory compliance, employee dismissal, student discipline, the Open Meetings Act, Freedom of Information Act requests, Sunshine Law requests, special education law, Section 504, IDEA, FERPA, FMLA, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the American with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Missouri and Illinois Human Rights Acts.
Shawn represents clients before judges in state and federal courts, arbitrators, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Missouri Commission on Human Rights, and the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board.
Prior to joining the firm, Shawn practiced general civil litigation with a focus on plaintiffs’ side labor and employment law, workers’ compensation claims, professional license defense, commercial litigation and contractual disputes. During law school he worked as a law clerk with the labor counsel for the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police and as an intern with the litigation department of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
